Multi-modal Project Impact
Once constructed and in operation, the project facility and business park will enhance the investment made in the Southern Tier Extension Railroad Line. The enhanced intermodal freight transfer capacity will improve the quality of the region's transportation service, resulting in increased shipping volumes on the line. The project also should promote new business development at the proposed business park, which will feature high quality transportation, shipping, warehousing, and free trade zone benefits.
By routing freight traffic into and through the region, the facility has potential to act as an inland port in the future. The project multimodal freight transfer facility should bring much economic activity into the region from outside the region (a net export for the region), and induce the siting and growth of other transportation-sensitive manufacturing cluster businesses. The freight transfer facility will impact businesses locating in the business park and existing and new businesses located in other nearby locations.
