Environmental Land Use Planning: WNY Land Conservancy
WNY Wildway, Sarah Costlow and Marcus Rosten
The Western New York Land Conservancy (Land Conservancy) created the Western New York (WNY) Wildway, a landscape-scale conservation plan to create a corridor of protected lands from the Allegheny Plateau to the Great Lakes and beyond. The Land Conservancy mapped the WNY Wildway by identifying the most intact core areas of natural land in the eight counties of WNY and the corridors or linkages that wildlife use to move between them. The Land Conservancy will present on how they are working with partners and municipalities to implement the WNY Wildway and to match available funding with landowners who are willing to permanently protect their forests and fields through conservation easements and fee-purchase agreements.
